Laughter is brightest where food is best.Alton Brown
This magnificent knife is a real showstopper. It was made for chopping meat and bones, as well as for butchering whole animals. Due to the high weight of the blade, the razor-sharp edge penetrates through anything with only light pressure.
Both the blade and the handle were handcrafted by experienced blacksmith artisans.
The handle is made of fine ebony wood, decorated on the front with a noble brass bolster. This handle is not only beautiful to look at, but also ensures that the knife is perfectly balanced. This allows you to work effortlessly for many hours despite the high weight.
Our Comment: Not only a unique and beautiful knife with its own story, but the best conversation starter in the kitchen or BBQ you can imagine. This is a knife that will make a man's heart melt. Unreserved purchase recommendation!
How it's made
The 5Cr15MOV steel is heated to about 1200°C and then shaped with hammer blows. Once the basic shape is in place, the steel is heated again for hardening and cooled down in oil. Then it is heated in the furnace for 1-2h at 120-180°C to temper it. In the last step, the handle is applied and the knife is sharpened by hand. And there you go, a handmade piece of art!
Story behind this knife
The Japanese Golden Eagle, which is pictured on this knife, is a large bird of prey with a wingspan of 200 centimeters or more. The Japanese name "Inu-washi" literally means "big eagle". The species was eventually believed to be the origin of the Japanese mythological character "Tengu", a long-nosed goblin. In earlier times, if a child suddenly went missing in a mountain village, the villagers would conclude that the child had been abducted by Tengu.
Nowadays, there are only about 300 birds left. With this special knife edition we would like to raise awareness for the extinction of this breed.
